Equinox and beyond..

We have hope that someday soon it will feel like spring again.

Right now the snow is deep and the wind is bitter, but the sun is bright! We’re hiking out to the car now, snowshoeing through snow we’re too tired to clear.

And despite the lingering cold, we’re having one of our best winters ever. My husband has taken most of the year off from official ‘work’ to see if we can make a go of it without a regular income. Small jobs, commissions, and the like are at a steady trickle, and we find that without a job to drive to everyday, our needs are few. We’re a contented bunch, weathering the early springtime cold in our little pseudo-monastery. Lent has been good to us, too. Fasting and finding times for simplicity and silence, we’ve been nourishing each other in ways we just didn’t have time to discover before.

And soon, the snow will be gone, the nights will be warmer – we’ll have chicks to raise and seedlings to tend. The kids will be spending more and more of their time out among the trees, and – who knows – I might even have time to write down all the thoughts that clutter up my head!

Right now, I’m getting ready to make Sweet Potato & Black Bean burgers for dinner, edit an article I wrote for a friend’s journal, and practice reading with my daughter..she’s in love with outer space, so we’re reading about the magic of planets and stars.

Life is good.
